THE FACTS OF GRINGAT:

1. I struggle with depression. I've only recently started getting my act together and talking to people that'll hopefully teach me some mental tricks to kick it in the butt. Right now the main issue is noticing it's happening while it's happening, rather than in hindsight.

2. Showers are efficient and bubble baths are a needless frivolity.

3. My first ever set was Tahu Mata. My latest set was the 3 in 1 Emerald train which I am currently trying to turn into a mixel. I got it for free after buying some books, and free Lego is always nice :D

4. Last Saturday, I went out to Spurn Point, which is an amazing natural landmark right at the edge of the largest river mouth in Britain - the Humber Estuary. There was a bit of hail and high winds, but the sights there were breathtaking. The land moves around on a 250 year cycle and pretty much anything built there gets consumed by the shifting sands and water, including a fort and artillery placement that was built here in World War Two which is being ground up and eaten by Spurn. The road was destroyed by the sea a couple of years ago so I rode around with the guys of the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust in a freaking Unimog.

5. I still play Neverwinter Nights even though it came out in 2002. The online community is still going strong! I also play Pathfinder with the Wargaming and Role Play Society (WARPS) at my university in a couple of games. One's a more standard fantasy one on Roll20 (barring the fact the party is working for the demon lord of Madness), and the other is a crazy Stargate-inspired storyline with a fully chaotic-aligned party.

6. I'm currently working on my dissertation. It's a study of suppressor mutations in filamentous fungi - we think we've found a type of mutation nobody's documented before. If so this could be a really big deal. Or not. Science!

7. I'm a fan of Markiplier.

8. I HAVE NEARLY 250 OCS. At least 3/4 of these are from the Cyclic Plane Storyline

9. I'm a pastor's son - my dad is a rector for the Church of England. I'm a practicing Christian myself and have been singing in choirs since I was 10. I really want to sing more, but while I'm at university I have other things to worry about :/

10. I may already have gone through all the spending money I had for this year. :T Thankfully Hull is one of the cheapest cities in England to live in and there's a Lidl closeby. I just can't buy more bonkles. :(

THE QUESTIONS OF THE FENREK

1.What was the happiest moment of your life?
Layin' it a little thick there, no? It's hard to say. This is a very strange age to be a human. I find I'm relearning all the definitions of things I used to think I knew, happiness among them. I'm still pretty sure it was on my first trip to Taize when I was 15. I made a lot of friends very quickly and we were there in the south of France in midsummer with over 5,000 pilgrims of all different denominations from different countries from all over the world. The music in Taize is world famous and amazing and you guys should check it out. One night, I stayed singing until the very end. I lost my voice the day after, but it was worth it.

2. If you had superpowers, would you use them for good or evil?
Knowing me, first I'd freak out about it and then try and find someone in the academic community to help study it... I'd refuse to be someone's guinea pig though. Perhaps I'd try to help people as well, but I wouldn't do so without having a good idea of what's really going on with me first. Also it depends what they actually let me do.

3. Your current hobby, whether it's MOCing, toys, art (like painting/photoshop) or anything. What is it and when did the passion for it start?
According to my parents, my passion for MOCing began after my younger brother was born. When he came home (he was a very early birth and had to stay in the hospital for a long time) I would build towers of bricks, which he would then knock over, and I'd build them up again. Apparently we both enjoyed this, though nowadays I think if he broke one of my MOCs I'd have to break some bones. :I Anyway, we kept playing together and that had a lot to do with fostering my imagination, I think. Later on I started realising colour schemes were a thing, and in 2008 I uploaded my first MOC to MOCpages. The feedback I got from there was great and eventually I got to where I am now... or was in 2012 at least. University has put a damper on things somewhat, though I still have sets and fiddle with a very limited supply of parts here at my friend Adam's house nearby.
I have a sneaking suspicion Bionicle is one of the main factors that led me to studying biology (especially biomechanics) in the first place.

Another hobby of mine is music. I love singing it, playing it (trumpeter here!) and composing it.. I actually got nearly full marks composing music at A-Level. Alas, again, university is putting a stop to that. That and any halfway decent music software requires time and money I don't have. When I finally have time, I aim to write a setting for evensong in D minor at 6/8 time.

4. Which would you choose over having wings to fly or having gills and fins for swimming and underwater breathing?
The gills and fins, definitely. Though I'm not so sure what good the fins would be, especially if they got in the way of wearing normal clothing. Being able to breathe underwater would be amazing. I'm an amateur scuba diver and have been down to 25M before. It was magical... being able to dive without risk of getting the bends, having a strict dive time, or the costly scuba gear, would be the best thing ever. Sure flying might be more useful for getting from A to B, but being able to dive down would unlock places most people can't ever see.

5. Out of your current gallery, which MOC is your favourite and why?
Lianyu. This MOC was in essence a fan letter to :icongoldenarpeggio: because I love his MOCs and whimsical style so much! The MOC itself doesn't have a build that's worth writing home about, but the unique colour scheme, coming up with his head design and incorporating all those wacky and wierd parts was fun. I built him at a very low time in my life and I'm sure that project helped me through it.

6. Bacon?
    Always. With brown sauce! :o

7. What's your idea of a perfect day?
A couple of years ago I'd have answered "a day to myself", but I've come to realise that never does me any good. A perfect day is when I learn something new, see something I haven't seen before, and realise there's more to reality than the little model ticking away in my head.

8. Mata-Nui or Metru-Nui?
Metru-Nui was my favourite setting. At least until Mahri Nui became a thing. Being there at the time, I really liked the change to the big city. It was all so big and new and wierd and alien. I never liked the fact that Mata-Nui was the whole world they had. It felt like another Drome. And if you know what I'm talking about you can have a bagel.

9. Have you ever met another MOCist and if so, what were they like? If not having met another MOCist, who would you choose and why?
I haven't met any other MOCists in person. I don't know of any others in the North of England. The closest to me is probably :iconbiorockdude: since I can get the ferry over to Rotterdam from here in Hull and from there it may not be too far. I have talked to several people in the community over Skype though.
If I could choose, I'd probably want to meet either Yuri Fassio or :iconrahiden: because they're both amazing and crazy folks who I've known for years but never really spoken to. Rahiden is at least in the same country as me though so meeting him might be achievable.

10. Autobot or Decepticon?
I always liked the conflict between those two, but I wouldn't want to join with either of them even if I was a 20 tonne transforming robot monster. A war of extremes has horrible things happen on both sides.
